AppleScript Applets (Applications)

When using AppleScript to Script things, you can make your scripts into little Applications, called "Applets". But Java also calls their small stand-alone Applications "Applets". AppleScript was around a lot longer than Java -- and the AppleScript Programmers want you to know this. So when you create an Applet, the AppleScript programmers actually give you an egg to go along with it.

  1. While running an AppleScript Application go to "About Script Applications..." in the Apple menu.
  2. Then Control-click on either the icon or the text "Script Applications"

In early versions the text will change to "Applets & Droplets".

In System 8 and later, it says "The Original Applets" instead just to remind the Java-heads where the name came from.
